Smaller than a big cat and larger than the small cat come the appropriately-named medium cats. They have their origins in Africa. The discretion of this beautiful nocturnal feline is perhaps one of the reasons which made it difficult to observe its evolution.
It stands up to 2 ft. Some individuals have a blotched pattern but this is rare. Serval is three to four feet long wild cat believed to be the ancestor of both the cheetah and the lion.
Serval is one of the most popular exotic wild cat species in the United States. The legs of the serval are the longest in relation to body size of any cat.
