Infections and diseases can affect the soft tissue around the nasal and throat passages causing your cat to create noises that sound like snores whether awake or asleep. As humans reach beyond middle age their throats get narrower which contributes to increased snoring.

It is pretty much the cutest thing ever. Loose throat muscles highly contribute to this problem. They are all well albeit a pound or two heavier than they should be and see a vet for their annual physical.

This makes them more prone to snoring. A tumor in the nose is very difficult to treat. Often the problem is only in one nostril.

These are cats with flatter faces such. Snoring problem can be caused by a more serious problem like nasal polyps or tumors which will alter the airway in older cats. Also like people cats who are overweight are more prone to snore.

The answer is yes. While most cat snores are harmless its also important to know that snoring can be a sign of some kind of medical problem. Brachycephalic cats the cats with smooshed faces have shortened nasal passages.

As they get older throat muscles get weaker. So do cats snore. Like people certain sleeping positions precipitate snoring.
